Sneaker Style

A major benefit of this spring's athletic trend is that you can opt for footwear that is both comfortable and fashionable. Wearing a skirt but don't want to wear heels? Throw some sneakers on. Wearing a dress? Throw some sneakers on. Wearing a ball gown? Maybe stick with heels or at least some cute flats. But you get the idea. Right now sneakers are chic with practically anything. As a mother chasing around a very busy two-year-old and carrying a two-month-old in a car seat, this is a trend I am happy to embrace.

While I may look fairly content in these pictures, this photo shoot was not the peaceful event that it appears to be. We had the brilliant idea to take pictures while we went on a family walk. It'll work perfectly with the sneakers theme, we said. It'll be fun, we said. So we got everyone and everything in the car and drove off to a trail we hadn't walked before. With Lily in a stroller and Eve riding her tricycle, we set off down the path. After walking for about half a mile, we found an area that we thought would make a suitable background. John pulled out the camera, I started to pose and... John discovered that the camera's memory card was missing. Immediately I realized that it was sitting in the computer at home. After a brief moment of cursing under my breath and taking a very dignified kick at some nearby grass, John offered to go home and get the card while I continued to walk with the kids. It won't take that long, we said. The girls will be fine, we said. Oh how wrong we were. Not more than two minutes after John had run off, Lily started to cry. I kept walking, hoping that the movement would eventually put Lily to sleep. After a few minutes I told Eve that we should head back in the other direction so that Daddy wouldn't have too far to run to catch up with us. When we made it back to where the car had been, John still hadn't returned. We walked back and forth along the stretch of trail for what seemed like an eternity. Eventually Eve got sick of riding her trike so I held it on my back with one hand and pushed the stroller with the other hand. Lily was still crying. It didn't take much longer for Eve to also start complaining and crying. I went to call John to see how far away he was and realized that my phone was dead. So there I was, walking a path with two crying children, no phone, and no idea when this torture was going to end. My patience was completely expended and I was about ready to throw a tantrum myself. After about half an hour, John came running down the path from the opposite direction to where we had parked before. He had thought that we would keep walking down the path so he had parked farther down on the trail. I was in no mood to take pictures but, hey, I'm a professional (ha) so I pulled myself together and we got it done. And this is why I will never EVER leave the house without checking that the memory card is in the camera again... or at least not for a week.

  4. Very cute! I am so not a sneakers kind of girl, but my brother bought me a cute pair for Christmas that I want to incorporate into a look. Thanks for the inspiration!
