How to Transition Your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall

Okay everyone, I don't know if you've heard, but fall is coming up. *Please read that sentence with the heavy sarcasm with which it was intended. If you had already rolled your eyes at my assumed stupidity, please roll them in the opposite direction so as to undo your mistake. Thank you.*

As much as I love fall, and there is just so much to love about it, there is one thing that I simply can't stand about it. It ends summer. How terribly, horribly rude and inconsiderate of fall? Does it realize the pain it inflicts by forcing me to fold up my pretty swimsuits, knowing that they will be neglected for about nine months? That's a ridiculously long time, as anyone who has gestated a tiny human can attest.

Speaking of offspring, the commencement of fall also acts as a warning signal, letting me know that my days in the sun with my girls are coming to an end and it won't be long before I am stuck inside with those two little devils... um, I mean angels... for weeks on end.

It also makes me realize that I have not taken ample opportunity of the warmth and access to the sun's rays to develop my tan. In fact my tan is nonexistent, so there's nothing to "develop" in the first place. That's how much I've neglected it. But then I soothe myself by looking at pictures of malignant melanoma and I can once again appreciate my vampiric degree of paleness.

Despite these offenses, I just can't stay upset with fall. It's just too fantastic. For one thing, I can finally pull out my gold leaf monogrammed Anthropologie mug and fill it with hot chocolate (which I'm not crazy about but feel obligated to drink because I bought the aforementioned mug) instead of with orange juice (which felt almost sinful.)

And of course, there's fall fashion. I get all warm and fuzzy just thinking of the tubs of sweaters, jackets, and coats that I will disembowel come September 23. Unlike the beginning of spring, however, I am much more reluctant to pack away my clothing from the previous season. Fall sweaters are no use in summer, but spring/summer tees and skirts retain their usefulness throughout the colder months. These items are of particular value in my favorite autumnal activity: layering.

Sometimes finding ways to wear your favorite warm weather items can be a challenge. Perhaps you feel uninspired. Perhaps you feel restricted by outdated "fashion rules." Perhaps you've never thought about this topic for a single second. Well, I'm here to help you out (whether you like it or not.)

Here are my best tips for fall-ifying your spring/summer wardrobe:

1. Add a Button Down Shirt or a Vest
Great for the beginning of fall before temperatures get too low. It's an easy way to add warmth to short sleeve tops and dresses

Instagram Style Challenges

If you follow me on instagram, you may have noticed two hashtags that I've been using- #wearwhatwearseptember and #stylemeseptember. That's because this month I've been participating in two style challenges. Basically, there are lists of outfit themes for every day of the month. Each day I've been posting pictures that incorporate the themes. It's my first time trying something like this and yes, I am a crazy person for doing two at the same time.

The fun thing about these sort of challenges is that they help you prevent falling into or help you to break out of style ruts. It pushes you to try things you might not have tried before. So here are my posts from days 1-10! If you want to see my future posts for these challenges, follow @sierraelizabethblog!

Fall 2015 Trends and How to Wear Them

If you haven't already, now is the time to start thinking about your fall wardrobe. While I love quality, lasting staples, I also love to add a few trendy items into the mix. Styling them can be a fun challenge and keeps you from falling into a style rut.

For those of you who didn't have the time (or the desire) to look through runway pictures to determine what's in this fall, here is a recap of some of the fun trends that were present. I've also shared some items and tips that would help you to incorporate these trends into your own outfits, without looking quite as over-the-top (or frankly, scary) as many runway looks.
