Return of the Culottes and Fourth of July Inspiration

Culottes and pumps are my new favorite thing. Less dressy than a skirt and heels but arguably more chic. I wanted a unique look for the Fourth, and this is what I came up with. Yes, it is missing the red from red, white, and blue, but that could easily be included with a bold red lip. And while this look is a little dressy for a backyard barbeque, it can be casualified with a pair of flats and a less statement-making necklace. Why culottes? Partly for originality but mostly because of the heat. July in Utah means scorching, dry weather and therefore results in absolutely no desire/ability to layer or wear pants. But for the sake of modesty, it means no short shorts for me. And since I wore a skirt last year, easy, breezy culottes it is.

And in keeping with the theme of the Fourth of July, here are 10 little pieces of inspiration if you're still planning your own look/festivities for the upcoming holiday:

1. DIY Flag Cuffed Jeans

As far as DIY clothing projects go, this one is pretty simple. The result is a more subtle and more stylish way of incorporating a flag into your look.

2. Ombre Glitter Nails

Who doesn't love ombre? Or glitter? This is another subtle way of incorporating red, white, and blue into your look. And bonus points for the sparkle, because isn't the Fourth all about that? Fireworks are pretty sparkly in my opinion... and sparklers are too, of course.

3. Confetti Filled Balloons

How fun are these? If I was throwing some kind of party or get together for the Fourth, these would definitely be at the top of my shopping/DIY list. Even above the food. Who needs food when you have adorable, confetti filled balloons?

4. American Flag Water Blob

My kids would love to play on one of these! And so would I if I'm being honest. A perfect activity for a hot Fourth of July.

5. Patriotic Photo Booth Props

I'm always a fan of anything photo booth-related. Photo booths are fun and they force you to document the occasion. And it's much more fun than posing for a normal picture.

6. Patriotic Fruit

There are few things more refreshing than watermelon on a hot day. And I'm pretty sure cutely shaped watermelon provides extra hydration...

7. DIY Confetti Poppers

Fun, right? Poppers are pretty perfect for this holiday.

8. Red, White, and Blue Makeup

I was fairly convinced that red, white, and blue makeup looks were always tacky, but this picture has changed my mind. Might want to tone down the color in the rest of your ensemble if you opt for this look though.

9. Put a Bow on It

This hairstyle would be ideal for the Fourth! This makes me miss my long hair!

10. DIY Flag Table Runner

Burlap table runners always look awesome, and this one is no exception!
