An Update on Your Mother's Floral Dress from the 90's

At first thought, covering yourself in fabric on a 95 degree day might seem wrong. But when your wearing a light, flowy maxi dress like this one, it's actually oh-so-right. Fabric that hangs away from your body will help keep you cool, especially when it is light weight and light in color. I loved the style and print of this dress- it's 90ish but not overly so. It's an updated version of the floral maxis that my mum would have worn when I was younger.

Given the dress' length, I wore it with heels. For reference, I'm 5'6" and a couple of parts of the dress touched the ground when standing flat footed. I chose some block heeled gladiator sandals- they kept my feet cool and the thick heel made it a lot easier to traverse the wood chips of a playground.

And perhaps my favorite thing about this dress are the two tassels at the front. Because I'm all about those tassels (along with most of the population- or at least the fashion conscious portion.)

I paired this look with gold eye shadow and a matte pink lip. Gold eye makeup is flattering on all eye colors and is neutral enough to accompany a bright colored outfit. I used Urban Decay's Naked Palette, applying Half Baked on my main lid, Smog in my crease and the outer half of my lid, and Darkhorse to my outer corner. I also mixed Smog and Darkhorse along my lower lash line.

On my lips I used NYX's Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul. I love NYX's matte lip creams. You apply them as a liquid with the sponge brush applicator which allows you to be more precise than with normal stick lipsticks. Then it dries matte! And I haven't found them to be too drying either.

  1. I saw this one from the website and I loved the print but was a bit turned off by the style around mid-waist. You made it look so chic, though! I didn't realize it looked so good on!
